WHAT IS TRUTH?
TRUTH IS ALL ONE WAY, NOT SHADES OF GRAY
When I talk about truth here, keep in mind that I don't just mean spiritual truth. I'm referring to ALL that is objective and discoverable in nature.
As the old adage goes, "there is nothing new under the sun." Some apply that piece of poetry to human behavior and how history inevitably repeats itself. I think that is a very nihilistic view and far removed from the author's meaning. Human beings aren’t automatons. We have free will. We can always choose a different path. The reason history repeats is because we never do; because we never look at the truth. We don’t pay attention to what’s happening, within us and around us.
This saying comes from the biblical book Ecclesiastes:
"The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be;
and that which is done is that which shall be done:
and there is no new thing under the sun."

From the occult perspective, it means that Truth is history. It is what has happened in the past and what is happening now, but none of it is meaningless. It means Truth is singular, eternal, and can never be changed or destroyed. It means Truth is Objective. It is extreme, absolute, and definitive; not dependent on the perceptions of human beings. Our perceptions tend to waver, often wildly from the truth. Truth is simply That Which Has Been and That Which Is.
If Truth is what has happened in the past and what is happening now, then Truth can be known. This doesn't mean we can achieve the totality of the mind of the Creator. We will never know the ultimate totality of truth in creation, at least not in this biological form. It simply means that truth within this physical/spiritual domain can be discovered and known.
"Well.... the truth is different for every person."
No. That statement alludes to belief, not knowledge. The truth isn't relative. It doesn't change. It's What Is. Our perceptions are what change. Perceptions are different for every person. So yes, we all have our own unique vantage points from which we can discover truth, but we can't pick and choose things to fit our pre-existing beliefs. We can look at something or take in information and have different views about it, but those opinions or feelings cannot determine the veracity of it. The ego doesn't like to hear that, though. The ego hates absolutes. We want what we believe to be true, and we cling onto that with religious fervor. Then we might say "well, that's MY truth," but what that statement is saying is:
"there's no such thing as objective reality; the truth is whatever I'm comfortable with or what makes me feel safe or special."
When you're in this mindset, your ego can be easily appealed to and easily tricked and duped into accepting all manner of falsehood and deception. We have to align our perceptions with the truth, otherwise we'll keep getting the same bad results over and over.

PERCEPTION & BELIEF ≠ REALITY

We can look at a clear sky during the day and see that it's blue. The reason most of us see blue is because of light refraction and frequency being translated by our brains into that color. With a slight change in that light we might see pink sky instead. While we all may perceive it through our own eyes, we're still observing an objective phenomenon.
If half the population were colorblind and couldn't see the color blue, the frequencies and refraction of light that create that color are still there and in effect. So it's still "blue" regardless of our perceptions. In our minds, the sky might look like a shade of grey and that would be "the truth" to us, but objective reality is still there. If people acknowledged the truth and accepted it for what it is, it wouldn't be "different for every person." We would have aligned our perceptions WITH the truth, whatever it may be or however it may make us feel.
Look at the graphic above and imagine the solid white lines (which do not waver) as Truth, and every colored line as an individual's perceptions. Their ability to perceive what has occurred and what is occurring is their Consciousness which can be accurate or inaccurate. In a case of low frequency vibration (red line), the wavelength will be longer and won't hit the white line as frequently. In the case of a higher frequency vibration (blue line), the wavelength will be much shorter and will hit the white line much more frequently. The higher the frequency of a person's consciousness is, the more their wave of perception will hit the unwavering line of truth. When you're trapped by belief and ego-attachment, you're in a lower state of consciousness, therefore your ability to perceive and acknowledge truth is hindered.
When someone takes off their glasses, does reality change or does the person's perceptions of reality change? Do they see a blurry world and decide that the world itself is blurry? No. Reality is still there as it is. So while we may have beliefs and opinions that we call "my truth," it's still not THE truth. There is no such thing as "my truth" or "your truth;" these are only claims. They are your personal experiences, perhaps, but to call them "my truth" cheapens Truth itself. In reality, there is only THE TRUTH. So, we have to align our perceptions with What Is, with what is objectively true, instead of letting beliefs rule our thinking. Learning and employing The Trivium Method is important in this process, and I go into that method in the next section.
"I've come to realize that the biggest problem anywhere in the world is that people's perceptions of reality are compulsively filtered through the screening mesh of what they want, and do not want, to be true."
– Travis Walton, 'Fire In The Sky'
What he's referring to is essentially Solipsism, where your entire view of reality is wholly dependent on what you choose to accept as true based on what you believe because "nothing can truly be known." It's perceiving reality subjectively as if you're the only person who exists. It's the ego's paradise. While there may be forces at work to push this ideology onto us, it's still ultimately our choice. Sadly, far too many of us are choosing it, placing belief systems that comfort us and validate our egos over objective, discoverable reality.
If you genuinely want to know what's true, you have to put all of your beliefs aside, look at things objectively, and engage proper judgement and discernment (NOT your feelings). Filter out the things that aren't logically consistent. Then what you have left is the truth. It's not always pleasant, it's not always what you want to hear, but it's still the truth. Then you can either accept it... or not. The greatest truths do not require dogmatic statements, arbitrary rules, or complex doctrinal systems. Once you've done the work of discovery they become self-evident.
You have to stop dreaming and wishing and lying to yourself if you want to know the truth. It's out there waiting for you to discover. It's not going to fall into your lap or be given to you by any "expert" or priest. It has to be discovered through an act of your will. The desire has to be there, and then you have to engage the will. It takes time and effort, and sadly, most people don't want to do that. They don't want to spend the time or exert the effort in actually discovering reality for themselves with the proper methodologies. That's why those who have done this work are morally obligated to teach it, to try to help others begin this process. A true teacher isn't someone who gives you information to believe, or to blindly accept, but to help you begin your own journey of discovery. It's a moral responsibility that we all must accept once we've taken in knowledge and understood it.
An ignorant society – ignorant of Rights, Objective Morality, and Truth – is, by default, an immoral society; and an immoral society cannot expect to be a free society. What you believe is irrelevant. What you definitively know and understand and what you do with that knowledge is all that matters.
Knowledge - Understanding - Wisdom
Thought - Emotion - Action
Mind - Spirit - Body
That's the Trinity in each of us. That's True Salvation.
The Truth shall set you Free. Belief only holds us in thrall.
